Mike has run two careers in parallel: first as a working musician – professional trombonist, composer & arranger covering a wide spectrum of music – and secondly as a music publisher and music consultant. Whilst studying classical music at university, where he majored in composition and orchestration, he also played professionally in a number of big bands and jazz ensembles. This diversity of styles continued as he created and produced music as wide-ranging as orchestral film scores, pop, jazz and contemporary opera.

The other side of his career has been in music publishing. In 1991 he was appointed Managing Editor to a major European publisher, working with composers such as Michael Nyman, Phillip Glass, Geoffrey Burgon and Craig Armstrong.

Since 1998, when he set up his own company (Artemis Media Music) he has produced the soundtracks to many films, a feature animation a variety of television series and over 1,000 commercial recordings. As a composer he has written music to ads for, among others, Saatchi & Saatchi (Cereal Partners), WCRS (RAC Insurance), Grey Advertising (Pringles) and BBH (AEG Lavamat).

He has written music for many independent films, including Two Days Nine Lives, starring Sienna Guillory and Matt Goss; Letting Go, You Are A Monkey and A Lump in the Road. He produced Artemis’ critically acclaimed recording of Handel’s Messiah; he has exec-produced many classical piano recordings with artists Piers Lane, Melvyn Tan, Joanna MacGregor and Noriko Ogawa.

In recent years he has created music for the BBC documentary series Love for Sale, dramas including LWT/Granada’s Marple, starring Geraldine MacEwan, Joanna Lumley and David Walliams; LWT/Granada’s Poirot, starring David Suchet; the films Saving Lives and Bill of Mortality and the epic orchestral soundtrack to the TV advertising campaign for Sony’s PS3 best-selling game Heavenly Sword.

Since 2009 he has been working exclusively on The Soul Rests Eternal, an album of evocative music for solo cello and orchestra. This is a major new arts project to be recorded and premiered by Caroline Dale and the English Chamber Orchestra.
